Why I Write About Money (And a Freebie For You!)

Happy October!

This is my first post of the new month, and it’s also the day after my birthday. Needless to say, it’s a pretty significant time of year for me.

So, I thought I’d shake things up on this Money-Making Monday and get a little bit personal.

Let Me explain myself…

First of all, thank you for following my work! I can see how many people view the blog, but not who views it. It’s all a bit of a mystery, so every time I hear from someone who has benefitted from my writing, it lights me up.

At the same time, I’m sure you’re wondering what got me so interested in writing about building wealth. This was probably a surprise to people who knew I’d just finished a poetry program.

Seeing someone who went to school to learn how to become a starving artist suddenly present herself as a money writer…

I get it. It seems like a contradiction.

But truly, that’s only because of our assumptions about what a poet looks like vs. what a business or finance professional looks like.

There doesn’t have to be a conflict between the two…

…just like there doesn’t have to be a conflict between the words “millennial” and “millionaire,” despite what the media, your coworkers, or your parents might have you think.

Why I Started Money-Making Mondays

Right now, it’s trendy (and in some ways convenient) to believe that millennials are screwed — that we can’t make the money we expected, can’t get the jobs we aimed for, can’t hit the same milestones that our parents did.

In some cases, this incredibly harmful belief has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But it doesn’t have to.

By doing my own (obsessive) research over the past year — honestly, I’ve consumed hundreds of money articles, books, videos, and podcasts — I’ve realized that it’s just as possible for us to get rich as it was for our immigrant grandparents who bought houses on $1/ hr salaries.

Are there things stacked against us — like a higher cost of living (even adjusted for inflation)?

Yes.

But is it possible to overcome these things?

1000000%.

The problem is, very few people in our lives are telling us that! For most of the twenty-year-olds I know, not even their parents taught them how to manage money or to really plan for their future.

To be fair, this is not new. My uncle was a math teacher decades ago, and one of his goals was to provide a basic financial education for his students because they weren’t getting it at home.

But today, getting an education at home is easier than ever. We have a wealth (pun totally intended) of information at our finger tips.

However, there’s also a lot of trash out there — information that is either unhelpful, incorrect, or just overly complicated.

So, while we have the potential to be wildly successful, we need someone to show us the steps to get there.

That’s where I come in.

What I Do For You

I sift through the piles of data to find the most intelligent, relevant, and easiest steps out there for building long-term wealth.

And I serve it to you every Monday on a silver platter — or rather, via a silver laptop.

Once I discovered how painless and systematic wealth-building can be, I was bursting at the seams. Seriously, this stuff is too good not to share.

For instance, check out this post where I explain how you can make $1 million out of less than $100 000.

Now, to clarify — this is not about quick-fixes or gimmicks. It’s about giving your money a full-time job, so that you can reap its rewards.

All of this stems from my love for championing things (i.e. millennial success) that go against the dominant narrative (i.e. millennial failure). And the more people I can bring along with me for the ride, the better!

My work is not meant to show you how to be a rich jerk. It’s meant to show you how to create a certain amount of freedom in your life, so that you have the resources to follow your callings and make the impact you are meant to make on this world.

I get a thrill out of seeing people thrive on their chosen paths, especially in spite of discouragement. This is my opportunity to be a cheerleader for those of you who are trying to do some cool stuff and just want to make sure your bases are covered.

That’s all I’m going to say for now. But wait — I have something for you!
